From The Board President, Don Ystad

As many of our approximately 2200 members are seasonal residents at Lake Camelot, let me begin by saying welcome back to another season at our beautiful lake.  And, for those of us who are year-round residents, summers been a long time coming.  There have been a few changes since our last newsletter.

You’ll notice new piers at the lodge and boat launches.  That’s the start of a 5-year campaign to improve our LCPOA facilities.  You’ll see additional, needed improvements to the lodge facilities, beach clubs and marina over the next few years.  It’s been over 35 years since our facilities were first constructed, and repairs are well overdue.

Take notice of the green areas along Leisure Lane, Cranbrook, and Kingsway at Falk.  Many of your neighbors have volunteered their help to clean up the dead wood from these areas to eliminate fire danger for neighboring homes and to improve the appearance of their neighborhoods.  And, you’ll see that some of us have volunteered our time to replant some of those areas, as well.  I would encourage all of you to get involved in the FIREWISE program and clean up the green areas in your neighborhoods.

We are hopeful that there may be a resolution forthcoming to the camper/zoning issue.  Your LCPOA board members made a unanimous recommendation to the town board to allow a single camper with guest camper privileges.  The Rome Town Board motioned and approved the recommendation and the zoning adaptation process should have begun by the time you read this.  After 18 months, we all would like to see this settled.

We have taken steps to substantially increase the monitoring of our lake quality.  We have received increased funding from Tri Lakes, and have approved additional LCPOA funding as needed for a greater sampling area, and more frequent testing.  One of our lake residents, Terry James, has volunteered to supervise the monitoring.

You’ll see results from our annual elections elsewhere in this newsletter.  Three of our board members decided not to seek re-election this year.  I would like to thank Jeanne Osgood, Corky Grisham and Roland Geiger for the excellent support they provided to our board this past year.  A special thanks to Jeanne for six years as a board member.

     Have a great summer everyone.
