What is Firewise?

FIREWISE is a Federal program where the states are given some funding to educate and assist volunteers to make their areas more resistant to wildfire damage. Lake Camelot is the first neighborhood community in the Town of Rome to begin this process. LCPOA Board authorized the organization of a committee to work with the state Fire Ranger, DNR, and Forestry Department to form a plan for the green areas around Camelot. This has been done, and the committee chair is Corky Grisham. The Lake Camelot Firewise Committee (LCFC) has a plan and proceedures in place for volunteers to apply to help clean up the 400 acres of green area around Camelot. We understand that it will be a long process and may take awhile, but with many small groups helping in their own neighborhoods it is possible. YOU need to get involved. Here’s how:

Step #1 – Fill out a Firewise Project Request Form available at the Lodge. (Each project needs a leader.)

Step #2 – – work with one of the LCFC committee members to get your plan authorized and set a date.

Step #3 -Get neighbors, friends, and relatives to help.

Step #4 – Once approved, complete your work day as planned. Turn in the hours for the LCFC to complete the paperwork.
The authorized cleanup projects will focus on clearing out dead and downed wood. Some property owners have asked it they are now permitted to clean the common area adjacent to their property. The answer is, NOT UNTIL THEY COMPLETE AND RECEIVE AN APPROVED PROJECT VIA THE LAKE CAMELOT FIREWISE COMMITTEE CLEANUP PROJECT EXECUTION PLAN.

Volunteers can work on any project as long as they fill out a volunteer form for that project. Sign up at the lodge to be called for upcoming projects.
“We’ll take all volunteers, as long as they complete the volunteer form that limits liability to the Lake Camelot Property Owners Association”, says Grisham. How about you and your children and friends who want to help protect our property and make it look a little better?
