Town of Rome Report

Once again and the New Year is upon us and I want to take the time to wish each and every person a very healthy, prosperous and happy new year.

I do want to thank everyone who took the time to come out for our town levy meeting the end of November.  While the attendance was not as large as last years were, it is still nice to see that people want to take an interest.  Now that the 3 year project to set up a long term capitol improvement plan is complete, we will be able to see the benefits of this smart business plan for many years to come.  This is something the board supported me on, and together we were able to see the plan come to fruition.  Also I want to thank all the town staff, and Department heads that have allowed the Town Board to put in place a program that will benefit all taxpayers for years to come.

We now have a new Police Chief, Adam Grosz.  Adam was our former sergeant here in the Rome Police Department.  Chief Gary Gronos has retired after serving eight years and left us with a very capable department with which to continue. Adam has two children and a wife and lives in Rome.  Adam was chosen for chief from a field of over 20 candidates.  Many applicants where from areas other than Wisconsin, but Adam was the best of the field.  I want to thank the Police and Fire Commission for a job well done.  It is nice to know you already have the best employed.

Since my last message, we have also replaced our planning and zoning person.  Al Dzierzak has retired and Heather Wessling has taken the role with extended duties, and again with well over twenty applications, came out on top.  Heather is also from Rome, and lives here with her two children and husband.  Some of the new duties Heather will be taking on will be the continued development of the Business Park and working closely with our community development as we work to fill Alpine Village.

The Town Board has authorized a development agreement be signed between the Town of Rome and Ecumen, and nationally known and respected senior housing authority.  Ecumen plans to purchase land in the Alpine Village, with construction to start this spring.  This will give our Senior Citizens an option to stay in the community when they can no longer maintain their property.  In your next newsletter I will be able to provide more details.
