Spring Book Sale will begin April 16th during National Library Week and continue through the summer.  Friends of the Library have organized the sale and good used hardcover, paperback books and videos for adults and children will be available during library hours of operation.  Excellent deals can be found on Retired Books & Good Used Videos.

National Library Week – April 15- 21st - Come Together @ Your Library is the theme for National Library Week in 2007.  Students age 11 and under are invited to participate in the Culver’s © Coloring Contest.  Stop by and pick up your entry form in early April; winners will be chosen at the end of April.

  “The Taste of the Vine” 

Don’t miss the second annual gathering of library lovers and wine lovers on Saturday, April 21st from 4-7pm at the Lake Arrowhead Clubhouse.  Wines from Around the World, delicious hors d’eourves and fantastic prizes will be featured at this year’s event with all proceeds going to the expansion of the Lester Public Library of Rome.  Donations of variously themed gift baskets for the grand raffle will be accepted from individuals and groups and may be dropped off at the library prior to Friday, April 13th.  For more information call or email Jill Kurszewski at 325-2929 and email: laevents@wctc.net.

  Wildflowers ETC. will be sponsoring the program WILDFLOWERS IN THE SAND Thursday, May 17th - 6:30 p.m. at the library.  Featuring a slide show of native plants photographed in the late 1970's in the Rome area.  There will be a discussion of landscaping with native plants, showcase of some of the library's resources and a Q & A period.  Shirley Pflederer, one of the founders of Wildflowers, ETC., a local group of nature enthusiasts will be the presenter.  Shirley will have free seeds of Rudbeckia subtomentosa, Sweet Black-eyed Susan.

            2007 Summer Library Program

Summer Library Program begins with a Kickoff Picnic on Sat., June 16th beginning at 10am – 1 pm at the library.  The weekly programs begin on June 19 and will continue every Tuesday through July 24th.  Children, parents and grandparents are all invited to enjoy crafts, reading clubs, live performances and lots of fun this summer.   Look for flyers and brochures distributed through the schools and businesses in May.  

Get a Clue @ Your Library

   Join us this summer as we explore the theme, “Get a Clue @ Your Library,” through programs, books and activities at the Lester Public Library of Rome.  The 2007 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool age through middle school ages, with crafts, prize drawings, trivia contests, public performances, and more.  Here is a preview of the scheduled programs:

Sat. June 16 – 10am to 1 pm Kickoff Picnic fun, food & games.  Rome Police Dept. will be doing fingerprinting & identification kits for parents.

Tues. June 19 – 2:00 pm – Earth, Music & Magic; demonstration of unique and unusual primitive instruments from all over the world held at the Rome Town hall.

Tues. June 26 – 2:00 pm – CRITTERrrr Man; combination of music, singing, storytelling, life-like animal puppets, and humor held at the Rome Town hall.

Tues. July 3 – 2:00 pm – Children’s Musical Concert with Randy Peterson held at the Rome Town hall

Tues. July 10 –2:00 pm –Storytelling &Ventriloquism

with Lucy Freeman (held at the Alpine Village Gazebo

Tuesday, July 17 – 2:00 pm – Flying Colors, Juggler Mr. Tricks held at the Rome Town hall

Tuesday, July 24 - 2:00 pm – Reading Awards Day & Party held at the Rome Town hall

     We invite families and visiting friends in the Rome area to attend any of the programs planned for this summer’s reading fun.  The library welcomes children of all abilities.   If special accommodations are requested please contact the library two weeks in advance at 715-325-8990.

     Registration for the Summer Library Program begins on June 19, 2007 at our first performance.  Children may arrive at 2:00 pm to register for prizes and participate in weekly contests; performance begins at 2:30 pm.  All programs are free of charge and are held at the Rome Municipal Building or in the Alpine Village Business Park Gazebo, see brochures for details.
